(CNN Spanish) - Felix Maradiaga, a Nicaraguan opponent, and who returned this Monday from exile for political persecution, was besieged by civilian armed motorcyclists, as reported by the Special Mechanism for Follow-up to Nicaragua, Meseni, of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights ( IACHR), through your Twitter account. The Meseni accessed the video in which the events were recorded. The IACHR condemned the incident and urged the state to ensure the safety of those returning to the country.


Maradiaga, a member of the National Unit of Nicaragua, denounced this Wednesday through a video shared on his social networks, that motorized and armed men besieged him on Tuesday in Managua.

While making the complaint, Maradiaga is hidden between the seats of his vehicle. "We are surrounded by armed paramilitaries," says the opponent who then begins a sentence.

In the video shared by Maradiaga it is not clear that the motorized men had weapons. "I can't take out the phone because I can't take out the window," Maradiaga explains in the video.

Commissioner Cesar Cuadra, director of Public Relations of the National Police of Nicaragua, said he was unaware of the fact and avoided commenting on the incident. Senior police officers have publicly denied the presence of paramilitaries, and have recognized that of armed civilians as undercover agents, volunteer police.

Maradiaga and his companions arrived at a hotel in Managua where they were protected. Later, the opponent attended a press conference with other sectors to convene a demonstration this Saturday in rejection of the government of President Daniel Ortega.

"What happened this morning is not relevant because it happened to a member of the National Unit, it is relevant because no citizen should receive any kind of threat," said Maradiaga.
