US President Donald Trump has announced the appointment of Robert O'Brien as his new national security adviser to replace his predecessor John Bolton.
"I will name Robert O'Brien, who is now a special presidential envoy for hostage affairs at the State Department, as the new national security adviser," the Associated Press said in a tweet on Twitter.
Trump announced on September 10 that he had fired Bolton because he "strongly disagreed with his positions" while Bolton denied that he had been fired, stressing that he had submitted his resignation himself and published the letter of resignation through the media.
Bolton's resignation adds to several resignations preceded by Trump administration officials, reflecting the extent of disagreements over how to deal with domestic issues, foreign policy and the way to deal with international crises.
