[New York 9th Reuters]-The magical realism in literature is a technique that unfolds a story with moments that seem surreal, dreamy and impossible.

If the work of Salman Rushdi, who wrote the novel `` Devil's Poetry '', which is the subject of the Muslim prophet Muhammad, is a representative of this magical realism, it is probably his real life. However, there is no surprise that extraordinary events similar to novels are naturally scattered.

"Midnight Children" written by young Rushdi, who was in need, was not only awarded the prestigious British Booker Award, but was also ranked first among the Booker Awards Sometimes. The "Devil Poetry" was blamed for Islam, and was sentenced to death by the Iranian supreme leader at that time.

After many years in the US, he turned 72 and interviewed Mr. Rushdi, who was nominated for a booker nomination again.

The main questions are as follows.

Q: How did you feel when you started working as a young novelist?

A: Most of the time there was no money. At that time, I lived in the UK, and I could only get part-time jobs at an advertising company, and I could work 2-3 days a week. “Midnight Children” took five years to write, and the cost of living was earned from work at (advertising company) Ogriby & Mather.

Q: How was the feeling of becoming a hit artist from eating and eating?

A: I never thought it would sell. Even the publisher was decided. When it was published, it was unexpected because it became a global best seller. But that changed my life and I am very grateful. I was able to work calmly at home. This is almost a miracle for novelists.

Q: After success, did you make any mistakes in money?

A: I have always been quite sensitive to the use of money. For example, I don't buy a speed car. I bought a regular Citroen. Even if you have money, you don't want Lamborghini. I don't feel like wasting money, and I've never thought about it.

Q: What are the lessons learned from being sentenced to death and enduring an unimaginable situation?

A: Humans do not really know how to actually respond until they are actually placed in a position to be exposed to extreme pressure. You cannot know it in advance. What I learned about myself is the fact that you can hold up, fight back, and go mad. This was a surprise. Everyone has the durability to be suspicious of what they have.

Q: Why are you donating money for lunch at a school in South Africa?

A: One of our friends has set up an organization called “Lunchbox Fund” that delivers healthy food to students in the poorest schools in South Africa. The school refusal rate in this region is very high. If you tell the students that there is a good meal at school, you can go to class and receive education. It's a very simple idea.

Q: What are the lessons of life you are trying to convey to your child?

A: Kindness and diligence. Fortunately, the two sons are working hard on what they like. None of them are on the same path as me, but they open their lives outside of literature.

The eldest son owns a public relations and event management company, and the second son is about to obtain a degree in music production and acoustic engineering.

Q: What can you learn from the strange political situation in which both the UK and the US are now?

A: I strongly oppose the UK's withdrawal from the European Union. I want to think that I can stop the mighty power of dragging to this cliff. Maybe it's impossible, but I'm a resident of the world of hope.

US President Trump thinks the US should be defeated in order to regain its original form. It's scary to think about what happens when Mr. Trump is re-elected. Next November will be a real turning point in deciding what country the Americans want to live in.
