The topic of the day: For the first time since the financial crisis, financial assets are shrinking worldwide

Brexit, trade wars, climate catastrophes: The crises of the past year have had a noticeable impact on global prosperity. For the first time since the financial crisis of 2008, financial assets shrank in 2018, and debts grew at the same time. This is the result of the Global Wealth Report of the insurance group Allianz, which is published annually. Debt are therefore particularly the lower stock market prices.

In the report for 53 countries, the Group considers cash, bank deposits and securities as well as claims against insurance and pension funds, but not real estate. The good news for the Germans: In contrast to most other countries, there was an increase in this country in 2018, as wages and employment increased during this time. Net financial assets per capita increased slightly to 52,860 euros. Germany ranks 18th in the list of the 20 richest countries. Number one on the list is the US followed by Switzerland.

So many applicants did not find any training last year, even though almost 58,000 apprenticeships were left vacant. The number of vacant apprenticeships has even more than tripled compared to 2009. That's what the University of Göttingen investigated on behalf of the Bertelsmann Stiftung. The reasons given include lack of aptitude for work or the distance between residence and training company.
