Discussing mechanisms for enhancing cooperation between Damascus University and Belarusian universities

The meeting, which was held today by the President of Damascus University, Dr. Maher Qabakibi, and the Belarusian academic delegation, headed by Rudy Sergey, Deputy Minister of Higher Education of Belarus, focused on strengthening and developing scientific cooperation between the two sides in accordance with the specialties and common needs.

He stressed the university's keenness to frame scientific and cultural relations between the two sides in various fields and to discuss all draft agreements through consultation and coordination.

He pointed out the importance of the participation of Belarusian universities in the sixth international exhibition of education and training held on the ground of the exhibition city and its role in introducing Syrian academics and students to these universities and contribute to activating the agreements concluded between the two countries.

Dr. Sobhi Al-Bahri, Vice President of Damascus University, said that the Syrian students' interest in learning the Russian language and their interest in studying it can contribute to facilitate the study of students in Belarusian universities.

The representatives of the Belarusian universities gave a brief presentation about each university and the specializations it studies in the first university and postgraduate studies, the number of its foreign students and its relations with international universities, expressing their readiness to cooperate with Damascus University in all disciplines, especially technology, informatics, construction, transportation, economics, rights, social sciences and specializations of common interest .

The Deputy Minister of Higher Education of Belarus expressed the ministry's readiness to be an umbrella and sponsor of all forms of joint scientific cooperation between Damascus University and Belarusian universities in the field of activating the cooperation agreements concluded and the conclusion of new cooperation agreements or the opening of a joint college in order to enhance communication and scientific cooperation in order to achieve the objectives that the two sides aspire to.

The meeting was attended by Belarusian Ambassador to Damascus Yuri Sluka.

In February, the Belarusian side offered Syrian students 10 scholarships, 8 of which were for undergraduate and 2 for postgraduate studies (Master's) in the fields of computer mechatronics, tourism, hospitality, forestry, garden construction, gardening, vocational training, social work, city planning, computer engineering and graphics.
