According to the Belgian Air Force, the crash site is near the town of Lorient in Brittany. The newspaper "Ouest-France" reported that the machine crashed at the exit of the community Pluvigner near a house on a field.

The Belgian Air Force reportedly had 60 fighter aircraft of the type F-16. They are manufactured by the American company Lockheed Martin. The fighter aircraft was not armed during the flight.
