DAMASCUS, (SANA) - The Indian Embassy in Damascus today held a reception to mark the 55th anniversary of the launch of the Art Cooperation Program

The Indian Embassy in Damascus today held a reception to mark the 55th anniversary of the launch of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Program (ITEC) at Damarooz Hotel in Damascus.

In a speech, the Indian Ambassador in Damascus, Dr. Hafizur Rahman, stressed the depth of the friendship relations between Syria and India and their rooting in history and based on mutual understanding and respect. In the fields of media, economics, engineering and others.

The Indian ambassador said that his country provides about 1000 scholarships for Syrian students in academic education and special programs were offered within the Indian programs in various fields.

Dr. Imad Sabouni, Chairman of the Planning and International Cooperation Authority, said in his speech that it is important to increase cooperation with India under the ITEC program, which will enhance the capacity of trainees in the fields of information technology and human resources training.

He pointed to the signing of more than 30 memorandums of understanding with India in various fields, pointing out that Syria sees India as a strategic partner in various economic, technological and cultural fields, especially with regard to the reconstruction phase to enhance relations between the two countries.

A number of trainees benefiting from the program during 2018-2019 talked about their experience and training they received in India, especially in the fields of media and environmental engineering.

During the ceremony, dancing and cultural performances were presented.

Launched by the Indian Government on September 15, 1964, the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) is a mutually beneficial cooperation and partnership between India and its partner countries.

The program shares India's achievements in technical and human development with partner developing countries and serves more than 200,000 trainees from 161 countries.

The ceremony was attended by Minister of Communications and Technology Iyad Al-Khatib, a number of members of the Central Command of the Arab Socialist Baath Party, the Governor of Damascus, the party branch secretary in Damascus, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, the President of Damascus University and a number of ITEC graduates.
