Former Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali died today at the age of 83 after a long illness.
"We have received confirmation of his death" in Saudi Arabia, the Tunisian news agency quoted a source in the Tunisian foreign ministry as saying, without giving further details.
Ibn Ali's lawyer said last week that the former president was "very ill and in a difficult state of health."
Ibn Ali ruled Tunisia for 32 years before leaving the country and heading to Saudi Arabia in 2011, where he settled.
