Russian security services have arrested three people in the Khanty-Mansi region of western Siberia in northeastern Russia for their association with the terrorist organization ISIS.
A statement issued today by the law enforcement agencies of the Khanty-Mansi region reported by Sputnik that "elements of the Center for Combating Extremism of the local administration of the Russian Interior Ministry and in cooperation with elements of the Federal Security Service arrested the three people and the competent authorities determine the level of punishment."
A government source in the Russian republic of Kabardino Balkaria announced yesterday the elimination of two militants during the implementation of the Russian Federal Security Service security operation against extremist groups planning to carry out terrorist attacks.
Russia's security services are cracking down on local extremist groups with ties to ISIS and other terrorist organizations seeking to turn a number of regions in Russia into hotbeds of instability and also to recruit and send Russian nationals out of the country.
