Korea ’s Munjain administration disbanded the “Reconciliation and Healing Foundation” established under the Japan-Korea Comfort Women Agreement, and the supply of support money to former comfort women was suspended. This month, a clearing corporation has paid a new relief money to a former comfort woman. This is the first time that the Korean government has announced the dissolution of the foundation in November last year.
The former comfort women who were paid this time have already died and the bereaved family received them. With this, 35 out of 47 former comfort women who were alive at the time of the agreement in December 2015 received 100 million won (about 9 million yen) of support money per person. The Japanese government opposed the dissolution of the foundation and urged the Korean side to steadily implement the agreement.
According to the person concerned, another ex-comfort woman wants to pay, but the procedural work that is the premise of receiving has not been completed. The remaining 11 did not apply for support because they were opposed to the Japan-Korea agreement. (Seoul = Takeda)
