Here you will find the most important news of the day, the most popular stories of SPIEGEL + and tips for your end of workday.
The theme of the day: Neuer gegen ter Stegen
It was a Uli Hoeneß at his best. The president of FC Bayern Munich fetched after the stupid victory over Red Star Belgrade for sweeping strike against the DFB, coach Joachim Loew and of course the media.
Hoeneß intervened in the dispute between the goalkeepers Manuel Neuer and Marc-André ter Stegen - and naturally placed behind Bayern keeper Neuer. Meanwhile, rivals from Barcelona, rivals Stegen have "no claim at all" to be in the national team goal.
Hoeneß is a "master of factual analysis," says Harald Schmidt. Only in one point he disagreed. Here it goes to his video column.
The noise between Neuer and ter Stegen is thus a prominent word richer - and joins the legendary quarrels German top goalkeeper:
- Before the World Cup in 1962, goalkeeper Hans Tilkowski reportedly dismantled his hotel room because young Wolfgang Fahrian was preferred to him.
- At the 1986 World Cup Uli Stein had to leave Mexico prematurely. He had called team boss Franz Beckenbauer a "soup skater" because he preferred the Cologne Toni Schumacher.
- In 2006 Oliver Kahn and Jens Lehmann teased each other. National coach Klinsmann decided against Kahn (read here an interview with the goalie legend about the often brutal workday of the keeper.).
The T-question comes in Germany just after the K-question. Or before that, writes my colleague Peter Ahrens.
The number of the day: 38
