BERLIN - More than 50 German civic organizations have called on the German government to stop arms exports once and for all

Berlin-Sana

More than 50 German civil organizations demanded the German government to stop arms exports to the countries of the Alliance of Saudi aggression on Yemen and cancel the current exceptions on the supply of German military components in the framework of joint projects.

According to the German website Deutsche Welle, these organizations stressed in a statement that the cessation of arms exports to these countries should remain in force as long as they participate in the aggression on Yemen and said: “There is a risk that German military equipment will contribute to violations of human rights or international law. ”.

"It has become clear from recent escalations in the Gulf that this region no longer needs more weapons."

The statement called for the cancellation of existing exceptions on the supply of German military components in the framework of joint European projects and the extension of the ban on export licenses of German arms to include licenses already granted.

Among the signatories are Amnesty International, Bread for the World and Oxfam Germany.

The German government extended a six-month arms embargo against the Saudi regime over its continued aggression against Yemen and the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi at his country's consulate in Istanbul. It also includes German-made spare parts used in joint military projects between Germany, Britain, France and Spain.
