(CNN) - Successful singer Mark Ronson has revealed that he is sapiosexual. In case you are not familiar with the term, it means feeling attracted to intelligence over other traits, or, in other words, putting the brain before the appearance or gender.

MIRA: Sapiosexual: attraction to intelligence

Ronson, 44, is known for a series of successful collaborations with artists from list A, from Amy Winehouse and Adele to Miley Cyrus. This year, he won the Oscar for the best original song with "Shallow," played by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper in the latest Hollywood remake "A Star Is Born."

Speaking this Thursday at ITV's Good Morning Britain, he said: "I feel like I identify as sapiosexual." The presenters Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway congratulated him.

Author Nichi Hodgson appeared on the show before, defending the term. "The definition of sapiosexuality means intelligence first," he said.

"I have dated men, women, trans men, trans women, and across the gender spectrum and now I identify as bisexual," he added. "What has linked all these people has been their brain."

Arguing that research on the subject validates the term, Hodgson said: “We know that a certain percentage of the population is also sapiosexual. They may not know it themselves, because we haven't used the term before. ”

"It always existed, we just didn't have a word for that," he said.

Ronson listened to the exchange while waiting behind the scenes. He admitted that he didn't know there was a word for sapiosexuality until he heard it on the show.

In the interview, Mark Ronson also talked about his divorce from French actress and singer Joséphine de La Baume last year, and about his friendship with Miley Cyrus and his recent separation from Liam Hemsworth.
