[19th Reuters]-US logistics giant FedEx <FDX.N> announced on the 19th that one of its pilots was temporarily detained by the authorities in Guangzhou, China, and then released on bail.
FedEx said in a statement that the pilot had been detained for belongings found during the pre-flight baggage inspection and said, “We are working with relevant authorities to get a more accurate picture of the facts.”
The US Wall Street Journal told a pilot family lawyer that Todd Hong from the US Air Force was detained a week ago at the airport in Guangzhou, the hub of FedEx. A non-metallic shot used in a weak duplicating air gun was in the bag.
FedEx has been involved in a conflict between the US and China, and this week expects the profits for 2020 to decline by 18%. Several executives explain that the US-China trade friction has eroded economic activity in Europe and Asia and is damaging the company's international shipping business.
The company has also been faced with anger from China because it sent a package to Huawei, a major communications equipment company in China.
