Millions of people in a number of countries demonstrated today for climate calling for swift action to save the planet's environment.
More than 5,800 demonstrations took place in 163 countries, according to the RIA Novosti news agency, adding that 73 unions and 820 organizations supported the demonstrations, while 3,000 companies and 3,700 sites joined the demonstrations via social media and the total number of participants exceeded 4 million.
A statement issued by the organizers said 40,000 people took to the streets in France, 430,000 in Australia, 100,000 in London, 250,000 in New York, two million and 400,000 in Germany.
The latest demonstrations took place on the eve of the UN climate summit scheduled to be held in New York on September 23, where countries are expected to discuss the steps they intend to take to prevent global warming by more than 1.5 degrees Celsius.
