The Russian National Guard has arrested three people in Nizhnevartovsk, western Siberia, northeastern Russia, for being members of the terrorist group ISIS.
"The Guards Rapid Response Unit has arrested three men in the western Siberian city of Nizhnevartovsk for spreading extremist religious views and committing terrorism-related crimes," TASS news agency quoted Russian National Guard spokesman Valery Grybakin as saying.
"The investigations revealed that the three detainees were involved in illegal activities aimed at influencing the citizens and then recruiting them in the terrorist organization and propagating their ideas and financing," Gribakin said, noting that they are members of an active cell of the outlawed terrorist group Daesh in the country.
He said a large quantity of drugs was found in the possession of detainees and a gun during the searches and criminal cases against them.
Russia's security services are cracking down on local extremist groups with ties to ISIS and other terrorist organizations seeking to turn a number of regions in Russia into hotbeds of instability and also to recruit Russian nationals and send them out of the country.
