Ambassador Fong Biao: We support Syria in its war on terrorism

The Embassy of the People's Republic of China held a reception on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of its National Day at the Dama Rose Hotel in Damascus.

In a speech during the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem congratulated China and its friendly people on the 70th anniversary of the National Day, stressing the importance of enhancing relations between the two friendly countries in various fields.

He pointed to the mutual support and attitudes of the two countries in international forums, appreciating China's stand by Syria, especially its veto in the UN Security Council a few days ago against a draft resolution aimed at protecting terrorists.

Al-Muallem announced that the work of the constitutional discussion committee was launched today after Pederson's visit, where all the details of this committee were agreed, thanks to the follow-up and guidance of President Bashar al-Assad for a month of talks, expressing his thanks to China, Russia and Iran who accompanied the work of the talks to reach this result.

For his part, Chinese Ambassador to Damascus Fung Biao stressed in his speech the depth of the friendly relations between Syria and China and their continuous cooperation in the interest of the two countries and the two friendly peoples.

Ambassador Fung Biao reiterated China's commitment to its just stance towards the crisis in Syria, its support to the international community and its call for respecting the UN Charter, the rules of international law, Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and its people determining its future, stressing the need for a political solution to the crisis.

The Chinese ambassador expressed his country's support to Syria in the fight against terrorism, congratulating the Syrian people and their leadership on the victories achieved in the war on terrorism, expressing his country's readiness to participate in the reconstruction phase and its endeavor to strengthen relations with Syria in various fields.
