Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said that relations between Venezuela and Russia will be strengthened in the coming period, expressing thanks to Moscow, which supported the sovereignty of his country in the face of US interventions.
"Russia, with its global leadership, has firmly supported Venezuela's sovereignty and right to peace," Maduro said in an interview with Russia 24 channel. "I thank Russia and the entire Russian people for their understanding and solidarity with the Venezuelan people."
He said Russia and Venezuela have distinguished historical relations and mutual trust between the leaders of the two countries. "We will move our relations forward in the coming days and weeks," he said.
Venezuela faces US interference in its internal affairs in an attempt to destabilize it by tightening economic and financial sanctions and supporting rightist forces in desperate attempts to revive Washington's plans to dominate the country, while Russia reiterates its rejection of any US military intervention in Venezuela.
