Russia has summoned US Deputy Ambassador to Moscow Bart Gorman on the back of non-issuance of visas for members of the Russian delegation to attend the sessions of the United Nations General Assembly.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov was quoted as saying that Russia summoned Gorman and expressed his opposition to preventing visas for members of the Russian delegation to attend the UN General Assembly sessions and handed him an appropriate diplomatic note on it.
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the US refusal to issue visas to the Russian delegation as "a very worrying and unacceptable situation."
"Of course the situation is very worrying and uncomfortable," Peskov told reporters. "The fact is that Washington is violating its international obligations. Washington cannot refuse to issue visas to an official delegation." This is not a matter of bilateral relations in this case.
Peskov stressed that the US action "requires a strong reaction from both Russia and the United Nations."
For his part, Chairman of the Committee of the Russian Federation Council for Foreign Affairs Konstantin Kosachov said that among the Russian diplomats who were prevented by the United States from entering its territory are seven State Department officials and three senior officials, noting that Russia will discuss this situation with the UN Secretary General.
The Russian Foreign Ministry denied earlier in the day the allegations of the US side on the failure of members of the Russian delegation to apply for visas to attend the work of the United Nations General Assembly on time.
