Isolon Tanaka (1908-77), a solitary painter who has gone through poverty in Kagoshima and Amami Oshima. The life of immigrating to the island at the age of 50 and depicting the beauty of tropical flora and fauna has been called “Japanese Gauguin” and has become popular in recent years. Recently, 5 new works were found just before moving to Amami.
I found the hanging scrolls “Iso hydrangea on the rocks” and “Matsu and pine and white plums” drawn with ink and rock paint. A total of 5 points. It was confirmed by a contact from an acquaintance of a resident in the prefecture who was from the island that held the picture.
The early work of the Amami period was known as “Papaya and Rubber Tree” (60 years), but the newly discovered work seems to have been drawn in 59-60 years earlier.
Koichi Maeno, a specialist in arts and culture, says, “Amami's early work is rare and valuable.
Speaking of Ichimura, the clear and realistic composition and depiction of “The Sea of Adan” is impressive. While signs of papaya are showing signs, the newly discovered baboon works have selected Amami birds and landscapes as motifs, but there are still many rough parts in terms of expression.
Ichimura's photo taken by Amami shows the unique rocks and linden flowers that appear in the work of the chick-bellied bird. The black rock surface in the center of the screen is drawn with shades of ink, and the same description can be seen in "Asahi pine and white plum".
Compared to the masterpieces of the Amami period, such as “Biroju no Mori” and “Kuwazuimo” and “Sotetsu”, they continue to explore their styles with innovative compositions and colors. It seems that the trajectory and spirit of Ichimura is conveyed. (Koichi Anzai)
