Abkhaz Foreign Minister Kofi Daur said that preparations for the establishment of the Embassy of the Republic of Abkhazia in Syria are underway, expressing his hope to open his country's embassy in Damascus early next year.
"An agreement on trade and economic cooperation between the two countries was signed last year as part of the official visit of the Abkhaz leadership to Damascus," Dauer said in an interview with Sputnik. A joint Syrian-Abkhazian committee for economic, commercial, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation is scheduled to hold its first meeting before the end of this year in Abkhazia.
"The joint work program with Syria is very broad and we are determined to implement it continuously," Abkhazian Foreign Minister said.
An official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants announced in May last year that it was agreed between Syria and Abkhazia and South Ossetia to exchange recognition and establish diplomatic relations at the embassy level.
