New York (CNN Business) - Apple warned of a security issue for iOS 13 users who installed certain keyboard applications.

An error can give third-party keyboard applications, such as SwiftKey, owned by Microsoft, or Gboard, from Google, unexpected access to people's phones. That "may result in keyboard extensions having full access even if it has not been approved," Apple said in a statement released Tuesday.

Some third-party keyboard applications may function as "stand-alone", which means that they do not need full access to users' phones. Those applications and Apple preinstalled keyboards are not affected by this problem, the company said.

  • A flaw in iOS 13 can expose your contact data (and Apple knew it since July)

Apple said the security issue affects iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners who use the recently launched iOS 13 operating system. Apple said the problem will be fixed in an upcoming software update, but did not reveal exactly when.

It is the second security issue with iOS 13 in a week. Another failure with the operating system exposed the contact details stored on iPhones without requiring a password or biometric identification. The company released a solution for the problem on Tuesday.
