A major fire broke out today at a chemical plant in the northwestern French city of Rouen, causing no injuries, authorities said.
"The 500-meter-wide area around the site of the Lubrizole plant, which produces lubricants, has been evacuated as a result of the serious fire that broke out," Pierre André Duran, head of the Normandy region, was quoted as saying.
French authorities have asked residents of the city to stay at home as a precaution, schools have also been disrupted and a large cloud of smoke covered the 50,000-strong area.
