Ear, nose and throat (ENT) consultant, Dr. Jamal Qassoumeh, has announced the creation of a new snail design that fits with specific cases of ear deformity called `` Syria Snail '' during the 9th Scientific Conference of the Syrian Society of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery in Damascus.

He explained in a statement to SANA that the new design fits cases of a single cavity of the ear without the presence of a vestibule, a rare occurrence ranging between 1 and 5 percent and are treated today with traditional snail transplants but do not meet the purpose.

Qassoumeh pointed to the agreement with an Australian company to manufacture the new design for direct use next year, noting that the traditional snail is in the form of a ball implanted in the inner ear alerts the auditory nerve, but deformation of the single-hollow ear needs a different helix that helps to alert the auditory nerve more broadly, which he presented The new invention.

The consultant said that "cases of snail cultivation have become operations (routine) in general as a result of the development of science, but becomes complicated in the case of fetal abnormalities of the inner ear or acute infections."

The scientific conference started in Damascus yesterday and will be discussed over three days with the participation of doctors from Lebanon and Iran scientific developments in the fields of microsurgical ear surgery, sinuses, head and neck tumors, nose and new in the world of auditory and facial plastic surgery and industrial and neurosurgical interventions.

The President of the Association, Dr. Naboug Al-Awa, stated in a similar statement that the ear, nose, throat and head and neck surgery in Syria has maintained its advanced level and kept abreast of international developments and continues to provide qualitative results despite the challenges posed by the terrorist war on the country. Syria has become a destination for treatment in this area from some neighboring countries. .

Al-Awa pointed to the importance of the participation of doctors from Lebanon and Iran in the conference to exchange experiences and to see the latest medical and surgical developments in both countries, saying that the continuity of scientific activities has an important role in the scientific reconstruction of medical staff.

Dr. Abdo Ayrout, Vice-President of the Association pointed out that the use of modern techniques in laparoscopic sinus surgery has been applied in Syria for several years and helped to give qualitative therapeutic results in terms of reaching the most difficult types of sinuses no matter how deep or in the treatment of some cases of tumors.

From Iran, the conference will be attended by Dr. Hossam El-Din Imam Gomaa, Director of the Snail Planting Center, with a lecture on the latest developments on indications and anti-contamination procedures for snail transplantation.He stressed the need for criteria for the selection of patients for snail transplantation, diagnosis and treatment early to ensure its success and follow-up through the rehabilitation programs.

Juma said the participation of a number of Iranian doctors in the conference is the beginning of scientific cooperation with doctors in Syria specialized in snail cultivation.

The conference will be accompanied by an exhibition of pharmaceutical varieties used in the treatment of ENT diseases, head and neck, as well as techniques for hearing aids and others.
