Beijing: Overwhelming evidence of US and West involvement in Hong Kong events

BEIJING (Reuters) - China's top legislator Li Chanshu has said his country has overwhelming evidence that protests and illegal actions in Hong Kong are backed by the United States and Western countries.

"China has evidence of the involvement of the United States and the West in the events in Hong Kong," Chanchu was quoted by Sputnik as saying during a meeting with Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin in Moscow on Tuesday.

For his part, Volodin stressed that Russia agrees with China's position on US and Western interventions in the events in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong has been witnessing violence by demonstrators for weeks.

Earlier in the day, China also condemned the US Congress resolution on Hong Kong under the guise of human rights, saying it was a serious violation of international laws and would negatively affect relations between Beijing and Washington.
