Climate package of GroKo: Government deletes information on CO2 savings

2019-09-26T19:16:37.506Z

The government parties have apparently removed the greenhouse gas reduction targets from the climate change program, as a new version reveals. Compliance with the requirements could hardly be checked.

In its climate package, the Federal Government waives indications as to how much the individual measures should contribute to climate protection. This emerges from a new version, which is available to the German Press Agency. First the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" (Friday edition) reported about it. The ministerial vote has meanwhile been initiated.

It was actually planned that the ministries would also provide figures for each proposal to ensure that the package actually closes the gap to the climate targets. (Read here an analysis of the content of the climate package) A table with the "mitigation effects" of the measures is now no longer included. The same applies to the column "GHG reduction potential", which should indicate how many millions of tons of greenhouse gases can be reduced.

The grand coalition had agreed last week on a billion-euro climate change package. (Read here the reconstruction of the climate summit) The Federal Republic of Germany should reliably achieve its binding climate targets for 2030. As a central element climate damaging carbon dioxide (CO2) should get a price.
