The Fifth International Forum of Journalists of Islamic Countries opened in Petersburg today with the participation of a number of countries, including Syria, to discuss the impact of the media on public opinion and their reactions to international events and enhance cooperation between countries in this field.

In a speech in Syria at the opening session of the forum, Assistant Minister of Information Ahmed Dawa stressed that the terrorist war on Syria revealed the progress of the role of media over other roles in igniting wars, pointing out that the media, especially the employee and the new media paved the conditions for igniting the terrorist war on Syria. The Syrian reality is at the forefront of the campaigns that targeted the Syrian people.

Dawa said that the establishment of hundreds of websites and pages by media and propaganda parties involved in the war on Syria to broadcast news and fabricated information created a false reality contrary to life in Syria, referring to the exposure of the Syrian national media from external pressures and attempts to disrupt and hack the platforms, including the Agency Syrian Arab News Agency "SANA" since the beginning of the crisis of attempts to hack and dump and the creation of false pages in its name.

Dawa called for the need for social media to provide credibility, especially professional media, informing the public of the necessary information, enacting international laws that criminalize those who try illegal in the cyberspace, and protecting new media in promoting wars, terrorism, extremism and destructive ideas.

In their speeches, participants from the Islamic countries stressed that the Syrian people and their army inflicted a crushing blow on international terrorism in Syria with the support of the allies, pointing to the Russian and Iranian efforts to find a political settlement to the crisis in Syria.

Participants pointed out that media wars aim to destabilize the security and stability of states through the approved use of the media space in order to achieve the goals and interests of those who wage these wars, stressing that the information wars are to control public opinion and influence in Western countries and primarily the United States, especially with regard to influence On the international agenda in the field of armament and distortion of events in Russia and attempts to cover up the US plans to develop and increase weapons.

Established by the late Russian Prime Minister Yevgeny Primakov, the Strategic Vision Group "Russia and the Islamic World" holds annual forums for journalists from Muslim countries to address pressing issues on the international agenda. The group is currently chaired by the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Mankhanov.
