Former French President Jacques Chirac died today at the age of 86.
"President Jacques Chirac died this morning among his family," Chirac's daughter-in-law Sala Barro was quoted as saying by AFP.
"Chirac is now part of France's history," said French National Assembly President Richard Ferrand.
Chirac was president of France from 1995 to 2007 and spent 12 years at the Elysee Palace, making him the longest-serving French president after the war after his socialist predecessor Francois Mitterrand.
