Brazilian authorities investigate oil brands that appeared on the northeast beaches of the country

(CNN Spanish) - Brazilian authorities investigate oil brands that appeared on the beaches in the northeast of the country.

According to the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources, Ibama, stains have appeared in 105 locations in 48 municipalities.

However, for Ibama and the federal fire department, the oil would not originate in Brazil.

“These types of accidents never happen here in Brazil,” Ibama's environmental emergency coordinator Fernanda Pirillo told Brazil Agency. “Generally these stains of unknown origin have an impact
minor, this is the first time we have seen an accident like this, from an unknown pollutant that affects several states, ”said Pirillo.

According to Ibama's research, the origin of the spots is the same, raw. Which means that it does not originate from petroleum derivatives such as gasoline. And, although it has not been identified where the
Oil, according to an analysis made by Petrobras, the content of the oil stains is not produced in Brazil.

Nine turtles were found with traces of oil, Ibama reported, six of them died. But according to the institute, so far no trace of contamination has been found in fish and crustaceans in the area
for human consumption.

Ibama asks the general population for help reporting sightings of new oil stains and asks people not to have contact with the substance.
