The Russian Defense Ministry announced that air defense systems at Hmeimim base in Lattakia countryside have destroyed more than 100 drones during the past two years that attempted to attack the airport.
A spokesman for the ministry, General Igor Konashenkov, told reporters today that 118 drones of terrorist groups have been destroyed in the past two years, 58 of them since the beginning of this year.
"The last raid on the airbase was on the 3rd of this month, when two drones attacked the base from two different directions, one from the sea, probably indicating that the drone was fired from a ship," Konashenkov said.
Konashenkov pointed out that air defense systems also thwart rocket attacks regularly, destroying since the beginning of this year 27 rockets fired by terrorist groups deployed in the area of de-escalation in Idlib.
Konashenkov said that the drones are being assembled in terrorist workshops and are capable of traveling 250 km and at altitudes up to 4.5 km. .
