Democrats in the US House of Representatives have urged Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo to file documents related to the Ukraine affair under penalty of punishment. These documents are part of the investigation into possible impeachment of US President Donald Trump, a letter from the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Intelligence and Control Committee to Pompeo said. The chairmen criticized that Pompeo had already missed two deadlines without submitting the documents.
The US Democrats had announced on Tuesday preparations for impeachment Trump. In a further letter to Pompeo, the committee chairs also invited five members of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of investigations into possible proceedings.
More about the Ukraine affair
At the center of the allegations is a controversial telephone conversation by Trump with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selenskyj at the end of July, during which the US President encouraged his counterpart to investigate his political rival Joe Biden. These are former businesses of Biden's son Hunter in Ukraine and alleged efforts to protect his scion from the Ukrainian judiciary. Biden is in the running for the Democratic presidential candidate for the 2020 election. He was already vice president under Barack Obama.

The letter to Pompeo (pdf) said the three committees examined "the extent to which President Trump has endangered national security by urging Ukraine to interfere in our 2020 election". Recent developments have raised "disturbing issues" about the extent to which State Department officials could have been involved. Republican Trump rejects all allegations. The House of Representatives is dominated by the Democrats.
