(CNN) - Club América striker Giovani dos Santos was hospitalized after suffering a horrible leg injury during Saturday's game against CD Guadalajara.
"Giovani dos Santos underwent a medical evaluation where it was determined that he suffered a right quadriceps injury," Club América said in a tweet. "A bone lesion was ruled out."
The football club said that two Santos will undergo surgery, which will be followed by about 6 weeks of recovery.
Thirty-seven minutes into Saturday's game, the midfielder writhed in pain after Antonio Briseño, center of Chivas, kicked Dos Santos over his knee.
Dos Santos was on the ball in the middle of the Chivas field when Briseño applied the kick to his American colleague.

The powerful blow sent two saints flying. The studs of Briseño's soccer shoe left an open wound on Dos Santos's right leg.
The former star of Tottenham and Barcelona was crying when medical staff took him out of the field with his leg immobilized.
After the brutal entry, Briseno received a red card and forward Andrés Ibarguen replaced his injured teammate.
This Sunday, Dos Santos said that "everything went very well, thank God." In the picture he was seen lying in a clinical bed.

This is not the first unfortunate injury of Dos Santos. The soccer player suffered multiple injuries during his time with the LA Galaxy team, which eventually led the club to buy the international midfielder's contract.
Although two Santos left the game on a stretcher, Club América won a 4-1 victory over Guadalajara at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.
