(CNN) - Hurricane Lorenzo became a category 4 storm as it stirred in the central Atlantic this Saturday night.
Lorenzo's thick core surrounded a large, clear eye as he joined the rare club of the most intense storms of recent years. It had briefly escalated to a category 5 storm on Saturday night, and the National Hurricane Center at that time described it as the strongest hurricane in the north and east end of the Atlantic basin.

“Lorenzo is expected to produce total rainfall accumulations of 3 to 15.2 centimeters in much of the Western Azores and 1 to 5.1 centimeters in the central Azores on Tuesday and Wednesday.
