(CNN Spanish) - José José died this Saturday and the tributes have already begun to be announced. The head of the Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, reported this Sunday on her Twitter account that on Friday, October 4, a tribute to José José will be held with an open microphone and karaoke in the Alameda Central.

"The best way to pay tribute to José José, symbol of our City, is by opening the microphone for the citizens to sing their songs," Sheinbaum wrote.
José José, stage name of José Rómulo Sosa Ortiz, died at age 71 on Saturday in Miami, United States, confirmed the Ministry of Culture of Mexico.
'The prince of the song' was diagnosed in March 2017 with pancreatic cancer and since then, according to himself disclosed in a video where he was considerably thinner, he had undergone chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments.

Upon his death, Sara Sosa, daughter of the interpreter of 'El triste' and 'Gavilán o paloma', said José José was asleep in his last moments.

“He went asleep, we are very grateful that it was like that,” said José José's daughter, who sounded very affected, in a telephone interview with Telemundo's Al Rojo Vivo program.
