Party leader Gauland: AfD wants to make fight against climate change policy the top issue

2019-09-29T08:35:14.417Z

The AfD considers the plans of the Federal Government for climate protection to be excessive. According to a media report party leader Gauland on massive protest - and accuses the other parties of "madness".

In the future, the AfD wants to concentrate more on protesting against climate protection policy. After the euro and immigration, this was "the third major topic for the AfD," said party leader Alexander Gauland, according to a report in the "Welt am Sonntag".

His party has here a "unique feature", so Gauland on. All other parties would "join in the madness", which the Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg is heating up.

The "excessive projects" of the Federal Government are completely ineffective, because Germany is only responsible for two percent of global CO2 emissions. Although the global climate is changing, the fact that humans play an essential role in this context through CO2 emissions is "at least controversial".

In contrast, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) recently reiterated the scientific findings on climate change in a special report. The UN-backed panel of experts, with more than 100 scientists from 36 countries, warned of devastating consequences of global warming driven by greenhouse gas emissions.

Only radical measures could avert some of the worst effects of global warming, according to the IPCC (read more here).

Global temperature already increased by one degree

The UN World Meteorological Organization warned that over the next five years, global temperatures would rise by up to 1.3 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. Currently, the global average temperature has already increased by about one degree.

Greta Thunberg accused the Heads of State and Government of failing at the UN climate summit in New York. Chancellor Angela Merkel also urged resolute action on climate protection. However, that of her negotiated climate package is also massively criticized. Climatologists described the paper as a "clear policy failure" (read more here).

Climatologists agree on the influence of man on the climate

Climatologists are largely in agreement that the CO2 emissions of humans influence the climate. Therefore, if the global community wants to limit the global temperature to below two degrees, it will have to reduce its emissions to zero by 2050. Then, no more CO2 can be emitted globally than it is removed from the atmosphere. The globally small percentage of Germany in terms of emissions will also be significant.

Although CO2 has only a small part of the composition of the atmosphere, it is largely responsible for the climate. The molecules prevent heat radiation from the sunlit earth from radiating back into space. The higher temperatures on the ground evaporate more water, which increases the formation of clouds. These in turn also hold warm air in the atmosphere and have a decisive influence on the climate.

If there were no greenhouse gases in the earth's atmosphere, the average temperature of the earth would be in the double-digit minus range (read more and read a fact check on current climate change myths here).
