Pederson: Respect for Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity is the starting point for any solution to the crisis

The Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General to Syria, Ged Pederson, reiterated the need to resolve the crisis in Syria politically based on the principle of respect for its sovereignty, territorial integrity and integrity.

"I have repeatedly stressed in my reports to the Security Council that the starting point should be respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria," Pederson told IRNA in New York, pointing out that only such a solution would end the crisis.

Pederson has repeatedly stressed the need for a political solution to the crisis in Syria on the basis of Security Council Resolution 2254, which affirms Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity and calls for a political solution with Syrian ownership and leadership facilitated by the United Nations.

Pederson expressed his hope that the constitutional discussion committee, which was announced to be formed on Monday, will hold its first meeting in the next few weeks.
