The Permanent Representative of Syria to the United Nations, Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari, stressed that the formation of a committee to discuss the constitution and agree on terms of reference and foundations of its work with the ownership and leadership of Syria away from any external interference.

Jaafari said during a session of the Security Council that only the Syrians have the right to discuss and adopt their constitution without any outside interference or extortion practices sought by parties and governments that bet on destabilizing Syria's security and stability.

Al-Jaafari added that the principles governing the work of the Constitution Discussion Committee confirm the full and strong commitment to the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Syria and not to impose preconditions on its work and recommendations.

Jaafari stressed that Syria is keen to make progress in the political track on the basis of meeting the aspirations of its people and is ready to work with friendly countries and the UN envoy to launch the work of the Constitution Discussion Committee.

Jaafari said Syria warns against freeing the hands of some to tamper with the provisions of the Charter of the United Nations and the principles of international law, as was the case with the invasion of Iraq and the destruction of Libya.

Al-Jaafari pointed out that the most important thing needed by the countries of the region today is to extinguish the flames of fireball, which some have sought to roll over for decades to destabilize its security and stability, looting its capabilities and displacing its people .
