A number of Russian officials and social and religious figures reiterated the necessity of lifting unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria and assisting it economically and humanitarianly without politicization and preconditions.
In an interview with a SANA correspondent in Moscow today, Secretary of the Council on Relations with Religious Organizations of the Russian Presidency Sergey Melnikov said, "Representatives of the western side and the United States in particular, despite all their claims that they represent the civilized world, they are working to achieve their political and economic interests." In a similar interview with a correspondent of SANA in Moscow, Korchikov said that the West is increasingly pushing for additional coercive economic measures not only against Syria but also on every country trying to exercise independent policy, stressing that Westerners and Americans have started their activity by interfering in the Syrian affairs illegally and bombarding Syrian villages and towns. They prevented the arrival of food, medicine and children's food to Syria, blocked financial channels and media space, and provided terrorists with all the necessary weapons, equipment, food, military information and media coverage.
Korchikov stressed that Russia has been and still supports Syria's efforts and is participating in the war against the remnants of terrorism remaining in some outposts and on the other hand to urge the international community to assist in its reconstruction and to urge international efforts to push the political process forward and end the crisis in it.
In another interview, the head of the Russian Council of Muslim Spirituals, member of the Russian Social Council, Sheikh Albert Karganov, said that the main work is currently the reconstruction of Syria, pointing out that the countries that had previously stood in the anti-Syrian rank should reconsider their positions and return to their senses to join the contributing countries. To restore peace and stability to it by lifting unilateral measures on the shoulders of the Syrian people and providing all forms of support for the development of the economy.
