[Dublin 30th Reuters]-The British government has proposed to the EU that it will establish "customs clearance centers" on both sides of the Irish border after leaving the European Union. The aim is to avoid inspections at the border itself. Irish public broadcaster RTE reported on the 30th.
RTE's European editor Tony Connery said on Twitter that "the UK has proposed a series of 'customs centers' on both sides of the Irish border as a pillar of backstop alternatives."
These centers were set up 8-16 km away from the border.
He said he saw an excerpt of a document sent by the British government to the EU.
