The opposition Democrats want to force the lawyer of US President Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, to issue documents related to the Ukraine affair.
The chairmen of several committees in the House of Representatives issued on Monday a so-called subpoena, ie a legally binding invitation to submit the material. This is considered a further step on the way to a possible impeachment against the President.
Giuliani admitted on television that, as the president's personal advocate, he had called on the Ukrainian government to act against former US Vice President Joe Biden, a statement by committee chairmen said. They set a deadline for Giuliani until 15 October.
