Egypt renewed its call to hold governments and supporters of terrorism in Syria accountable.
Ambassador Mohamed Idris, Egypt's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, said in a statement on behalf of his country to the Security Council session on the situation in Syria, `` the need to take serious and collective measures in the fight against terrorism and illegal armed groups in Syria and to avoid drifting behind the allegations of changing the names of terrorist organizations to hide their identity. And take action against the parties and governments that continue to support these terrorist organizations… with warning of the extension of the danger of these terrorists and foreign fighters outside Syria to complete their subversive missions in the Middle East. ”
The statement expressed the hope that the agreement to form a committee to discuss the constitution would represent a milestone in stopping the suffering of the Syrian people, pointing out that “this should push everyone to accelerate its construction through concrete steps, which is to start the work of the committee as soon as possible and focus on the substantive issues with work. Parallel and without delay to the rest of the elements of the political settlement of the crisis in Syria. ”
The statement stressed "the need to proceed with a political settlement led by the Syrians themselves to the protracted crisis ... and work to stop the efforts of some parties to amend the composition of the population in northern Syria in order to expand the influence of these regional parties," stressing that Egypt will continue to make all possible efforts to help reach A sustainable political settlement that preserves Syria's sovereignty, unity and safety of its people and territories.
