Washington (CNN) - Hillary Clinton's decision to remain married to former President Bill Clinton, despite her adventure, is the bravest thing she has done in her personal life, the former secretary of state and first lady said on Tuesday.

And professionally what is the bravest? Your presidential campaigns.

Clinton, who ran for president twice and was the candidate of the Democratic Party in 2016, was asked the question in an interview with Amy Robach of ABC on "Good Morning America." Clinton, along with her daughter, Chelsea, made an appearance on the show to promote her new book, The Book of Brave Women.

"May I ask you what is the bravest thing you have done?" Robach asked.

“Oh, God, I think the bravest thing I've ever done, well, personally, (make) the decision to stay in my marriage. Publicly, politically, (running for president). And move on. Just get up every day and move on, ”Hillary Clinton replied.

The former first lady had previously faced criticism for her decision to remain in her marriage to Bill Clinton after her well-known adventure 20 years ago with Monica Lewinsky, who was a White House intern at the time. The Senate finally acquitted Bill Clinton during a political trial over the scandal, and ended his term as president.

In response to Robach's same question, Chelsea Clinton said: “Oh my God, I think I am so overwhelmed by my mother's answer that I have no words. And I am very proud to be your daughter. ”

He added that his "most important identity" is to be the mother of his three children, saying, "So I will try to be brave every day."

The interview also referred to the Trump administration's decision to notify a former US official in August that dozens of emails he sent to then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton were re-categorized as classified.

"I think it's an unfortunate distraction," Clinton told Robach. “You go and talk to people who have been experienced diplomats for many years and then retroactively classify what they said 10 years ago. I think it's really a shame that they are doing it and I hope people don't get distracted. ”

The administration's notification to the former official left by the State Department in 2012 marks an instance of what The Washington Post reported on Saturday as a large-scale reclassification of emails sent to Clinton private mail by up to 130 current and former senior officials from the State Department as part of a communications investigation.

CNN's Kristen Holmes, Paul LeBlanc and Kate Sullivan contributed to this report.
