An Iranian Revolutionary Court has sentenced a person to death for espionage for the United States. The person has appealed, a final decision will be made in the appeals court, said Justice spokesman Gholamhossein Esmaili. He did not name further details.
In addition, sentences of ten-year imprisonment for two Iranian men who are said to have spied for the US, have been confirmed by the Court of Appeal. Another man was also sentenced to ten years in prison. He is said to have spied for Britain.
Only in July had there been reports that Iranian security forces arrested 17 alleged spies who are said to have worked for the US CIA. According to Iranian statements, some of the suspects were sentenced to death. In August, some alleged spies were sentenced to long prison terms.
