Four policemen were killed when a gunman attacked elements at a police station in Paris.
"A gunman with a knife attacked the police at the station, killing four, before the police returned the attacker," the official French police union, Yves Lefebefry, was quoted as saying.
A Paris police source said the attacker may have been a policeman.
The French public transport authorities "RATP" closed the subway station near the place of the police station for security reasons, while French media announced that the Interior Minister Christophe Castaner and representatives of the Public Prosecution in the capital Paris went to the scene.
