Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said his country's adoption of a policy of safety and public security would make it a safer and more prosperous country.
"Malaysia needs this policy at a time when the country is facing a complex security threat that is difficult to treat in conventional ways," Mahathir was quoted as saying by the state news agency.
He pointed out that the world is currently facing many complex security challenges.
In August, Malaysian police arrested 519 people suspected of involvement in terrorist acts in the country, and in March arrested 13 people for alleged links to terrorist groups.
Malaysian authorities arrested more than 250 people between 2013 and 2016 on charges of belonging to ISIS and carrying out terrorist attacks.
