French government spokeswoman Cebit Ndiaye said today that "retaliatory measures" would be imposed on the United States in consultation with the European Union if Washington applied its sanctions this month on European products.

"We have always repeated to the WTO that we consider it better to find amicable solutions rather than trade disputes," Ndiaye told BFMTV and Monte Carlo radio. "France regrets this war with the United States." “Because when we fight, we don't have much opportunity to collectively increase growth.”

The United States will impose a 10 percent tariff on aircraft and 25 percent on other industrial and agricultural goods from the European Union, effective 18 June, an official at the US Trade Representative's office said.

Ndiaye noted that this situation "brings nothing to no one" without explaining the form of possible reprisals.

"We are facing a threat from the Americans. These threats have not yet been implemented," she said, calling for "a discussion before reaching this stage, where in 10 days a lot can be done.

The administration has already imposed duties on aluminum and steel imports from Europe, adding to a series of reckless decisions taken by Donald Trump since he came to power, including withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement and the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement as successive US administrations continue to exercise protectionism. International trade restrictions and an attempt to dominate the global economy and international trade.
