(CNN) - The Los Angeles Dodgers opened the divisional series of the Major League Baseball National League on Thursday with a 6-0 victory over the Washington Nationals.

Walker Buehler and Patrick Corbin engaged in a pitchers duel and between the two allowed only four singles and a race won in 6 innings.

However, the bases by balls proved to be the difference. Corbin allowed the bases to be filled in the first inning before giving a free pass to Dodgers' second baseman Max Muncy, allowing the entry of center fielder AJ Pollock.

The Dodgers added a race to take hold in the sixth inning, when Cody Bellinger scored thanks to a mistake by Nationals first baseman Howie Kendrick. Muncy added a two-run single in the seventh, and emerging hitter Gavin Lux and right fielder Joc Pederson added solo shots in the eighth.

Los Angeles, who is looking for his third consecutive National League pennant and his first World Series victory since 1988, leads the series to five games 1-0.
