(CNN) - The price of gasoline in Ecuador has triggered protests in the country. The demonstrations were unleashed by the elimination of the fuel subsidy, which generated an increase in prices leaving the gallon at $ 2.30.
How do Ecuador's new prices compare with the rest of the region? Despite the increase, gasoline in Ecuador remains among the cheapest in Latin America.
At $ 0.62 per liter, it is the third most economical after Bolivia and Venezuela. On the other side of the spectrum are Uruguay, which with $ 1.49 has the most expensive in Latin America, followed by Chile ($ 1.15) and the Dominican Republic.
