(CNN Spanish) - Thousands of passengers will be affected by the 48-hour strike called by the Union of Airline Aviators (UALA) and the Association of Airline Pilots (APLA).

The strike is scheduled for Saturday, October 5 from 00:00 until Sunday, October 6 at 11:59 p.m., according to an APLA statement.

The cessation of activities will affect 650 flights and 65,000 passengers, Aerolineas Argentinas told CNN in Spanish.

What to do if your flight is canceled?

If you have a flight scheduled in Aerolineas Argentinas for the weekend, you can go to the company's website and check the status of your flight.

For passengers who want to reschedule the flight, the airline's commercial policy for relocations and date changes applies. Thus, no tariff difference will be applied nor a penalty for change will be charged to users who want to modify their flight dates.

“Any passenger who communicates with the company and needs to reschedule their flight or request the return of the money paid because the alternatives [offered by the company] do not work for them by the usual means of contact or by the call center,” a source from Aerolineas Argentinas told CNN in Spanish.

If the reservation was made directly through Aerolineas Argentina, you can enter the website in the option 'My Booking', or call the call center 0810-222-86527.

In the event that the reservation has been made through another channel, for example by a travel agency, you must contact that agency directly so that it manages the change of air tickets.

Why the strike?

This is the number 14 pilots' strike so far in 2019, according to Aerolineas Argentinas.

The union asks the government to increase wages. The unions say that "while inflation deteriorates the income of day-to-day workers, the executives of Aerolineas Argentinas / Austral, continued without presenting a proposal for wage recomposition."

Meanwhile, the president of Aerolineas Argentinas Luis Malvido said that this strike is what most affects “the confidence of our passengers” and said that the reasons for the force measure “are political”.

"Unfortunately we are always with these threats and service interruptions: this year we have fourteen," Malvido said in radio statements quoted by Télam.

This Friday, after a round of dialogues, APLA said that negotiations with the executives of Aerolineas Argentinas and Austral failed and there was no progress, so they ratified the strike.
