They are probably no longer friends: Rory Stewart faces a possible no-deal Brexit. Boris Johnson threw him out of the faction. Now Stewart wants to take over Johnson's former office in London.

Rory Stewart took on the role of British Prime Minister against Boris Johnson - and lost. Now he is applying for another post: Stewart plans to become mayor next year in London. He shared that via Twitter.

I am running as an Independent for Mayor of London, and here's why.

The country fell victim to political extremism, warned Stewart. On the other hand he wants to fight. "But we will only be successful if we finally free ourselves from the stranglehold of our dying party system," wrote Stewart in a guest post in the London Evening Standard.

The 46-year-old politician had previously announced that he would no longer compete in the next parliamentary election, he also wanted to give up his membership in the Conservative Party.

Johnson banned Stewart from the faction

Stewart was always in the race for the office of Tory party leader and prime minister as an outsider. He ended up fifth, but had impressed many people with his passionate commitment to a moderate and consensus-oriented policy.

Although he had voted against Brexit, Stewart sat down for a withdrawal from the EU, but only with a withdrawal agreement.

He vehemently rejects a no-deal Brexit. In September, when he voted against his own government for a bill designed to prevent an unregulated exit from the EU, Johnson banished him and 20 other Tories from the faction.

Johnson was Mayor of London between 2008 and 2016. He stands because of his war rhetoric in parliamentary debate of criticism. The opposition accuses him of sowing hatred in the country.

Currently, Sadiq Kahn of the Labor Party is Mayor of London. He publicly addressed US President Donald Trump several times. One of the issues was a big balloon designed to show Trump as a baby. Kahn's government had allowed him in a demonstration, Trump obviously felt duped.
